Incident Command

A wildfire simulator on real terrain. You are the incident commander: put crews, dozers, engines and aircraft where they matter, draw the line, call the evacuations, and hold on when the front comes through at three.

Elevation is fetched live from the public AWS Terrain Tiles for the point you give. Fuel is derived from terrain and the biome you choose.

How it works

The fire is a cellular automaton on a 320 × 320 grid of 40 m cells (12.8 km across), running in a Web Worker at one simulated minute per step. Spread rate depends on fuel type, fuel dryness by time of day, wind (head fire versus backing fire) and slope. High-intensity cells in wind throw embers that start spot fires downwind — including across your line. Hand line and dozer line hold until fire intensity exceeds what they can take; retardant and engines raise that threshold.

Each day has a forecast. Some days a dry front arrives in the afternoon and swings the wind ninety degrees in half an hour. A flank becomes a head. Plan for it.
